Discover the online design editor from DPG Media. With this user-friendly tool, both individuals and funeral directors can create and share digital funeral messages in a visually appealing way. 

The biggest challenge in this project was coordinating with different parts of DPG Media for integration with their systems. Additionally, we had to be technically prepared for extreme peak loads to support content display in various online newspapers.

Previously, we developed a self-service advertising platform for DPG Media. Now, we were asked to optimize their current web application for creating digital funeral advertisements, so that it would also integrate with the existing Mediablend platform.

With the redesigned online design editor, both individuals and funeral directors can easily compose a funeral message. The process is more user-friendly and visually appealing than the previous application. Users can choose from different templates and position the text themselves. Additionally, this web application is linked to various social media channels, including Facebook, making it easy to share a message. The images are automatically scaled correctly to meet the usual dimensions of the social media platforms.

DPG Media is the largest media company in the Netherlands and owns AD, Nu.nl, Q-music, and de Volkskrant. The company operates in various media sectors, including newspapers, magazines, television, and online media.

Result

The end result is a user-friendly online design editor that allows both individuals and funeral directors to create a digital funeral advertisement. When creating a funeral message, the user can choose which newspapers this message is intended for. The funeral advertisements are similar to offline prints but digital. These are displayed at the bottom of the homepage of the national, regional, or local newspapers of choice and on the "in memory" page. The created funeral messages can be found online at all times. The new application offers an excellent user experience and additional features.

Did you know..

Did you know that the design editor for DPG Media was developed for two types of users, resulting in two different flows within the application? For example, business accounts receive an invoice, while individuals must pay directly. Also, messages from business users are posted directly without editorial review. The publications are processed from the design editor through DPG Media's existing systems for publication on online platforms.

In 3 months, a minimal viable product was realized for the transformation of an advertising model. The short time to market was only possible by working as a close-knit team with the experts from Orange Juice.
